Passover Seder Service

Article Pic

Passover begins at sunset on March 29.
At 7:00 pm on March 29 we will gather in our auditorium here at Grace Chapel Castle Rock to participate in a Passover Seder. The word Passover in Hebrew is Pesach. Pesach has two meanings. First, it means "doorway" and is a reminder that God had instructed the Israelite believers to sacrifice a lamb and put the blood on the doorposts of their homes to save them from death. Second, the word means "pass over" and it is used in Exodus 12:13 where God promises, "I will pass over you."
The Last Supper, which the Lord Jesus Christ had with his disciples in the upper room the night before his crucifixion was a Passover meal. It was in this Passover meal that Jesus instituted the Lord's Supper (communion) as an ordinance for the church.
The Passover Seder is a celebration that the Jewish people have been celebrating for over 3,500 years. God commanded them to observe the Passover. As believers in Christ, we are not commanded to observe the Passover, but if we do participate in the Passover Seder we will gain great understanding of the significance of this holiday for the Jewish believers and we can also gain new insight into our own celebration of the Lord's Supper.
We will be led in this celebration by a Jewish Christian, Stan Kellner, who has observed Passover Seders since the time that he was a young boy growing up in a Jewish home on Boston's North Shore.
We will not be doing a full meal... so you need to eat at home before you come; but we will all participate in all the symbolic elements of the meal. We will sit around tables and will all personally experience the sweetness of the Charoseth, the saltiness of the parsley dipped in saltwater, the tears shed because of the bitter herbs, the powerful picture of the broken matzah, the cup of redemption, and the cup of praise.
It will be an evening full of experiential learning and spiritual insights and deepening understanding of the God we love and serve. It will be unique opportunity to "Behold the Lamb!"
